Jerry and Tony are back on the pianos this Wednesday night at the ONLY piano bar that is open within 500 miles 🙂. Request ANY song in the comments, and sing along at home OTHERWISE WE’LL KNOW. Get your cold ones on ice and lets fellowship with the greatest songs in history.
To ensure your request gets played, use Venmo/Paypal/Cash app to send a tip, and include the artist name and song in the notes section of your transaction!

BIO:
PIANOPALOOZA Dueling Pianos is part comedy show, part song request show, part sh%t show. Tony & Jerry are ACTUAL best friends, and their stage banter is bested only by their Keytar skills. It turns out being a band nerd really does pay off–EVENTUALLY.
So don’t miss this opportunity to request all the hits from your favorites like Journey, Billy Joel, Alicia Keyes, Elton John, and Lil’Wayne. Wait—Lil’Wayne can go to hell

Shevelia is an alternative jazz ensemble made up of three Des Moines area musicians. Shevelia primarily performs original music along with a few arrangements of their favorite jazz standards. While Shevelia is most at home pushing the envelope of non-traditional jazz/fusion/electronic music, they are also willing and able to perform in a traditional jazz trio setting and are available for booking at any venue looking for a small jazz ensemble.

Reconnect and Re-engage with a new Thursday Night Experience…
It’s a spicy new take on Thursday Nights with DJ XAN and a mix of Latin, Club, and Top 40 dance music that will bring the sizzle all summer long…
We’re can’t wait to welcome everyone back to an outstanding nightlife experience but, of course, there will be some important changes to protect the health and safety of all of our patrons and team members. Please read on…
First of all, if you don’t feel safe being out and around people, please stay home until you’re comfortable! We’ll be here when you’re ready.
Next, per Iowa State law, we are required to limit capacity to 50% of our normal opperating capacity and to enforce social distancing in our seating areas. Because of that, we’ll be offering a guest list which will offer preferential entry in the event that we reach capacity. While being on the guest list doesn’t guarantee entry if we’re at capacity, if you’re on the guest list, you’ll be moved to the front of the line over those who aren’t on the list. Also, guest list is only vaild until 11 PM, so please arrive early.
Seating will be limited per Iowa Rules, and VIP reservations will be available (and HIGHLY recommended) and limited to parties of six, but our dancefloor will be open although we will require that everyone observe social distancing rules—even while dancing.
As always, this event is 21+ with valid ID required.

Whether it’s with the masks, the temperatures taken at the door, or the spaced out tables, it may feel incredibly different than before all of this began. The good news is that once you’re in your seat with a cocktail in hand & a great band on the stage, you’ll have everything you need for another great night at Noce.

Artist Bio:
Midwest singer-songwriter Chad Elliott blends folk roots, swampy blues and soulful writing to deliver an original Americana sound. His live performances have been honed over a decade of being on the road performing more than 200 shows each year. Elliott is lauded as “Iowa’s Renaissance man” by Culture Buzz Magazine. He has penned more than 1,500 songs in his career while also cultivating his skills as a painter, sculptor, illustrator and author (Wilderman’s Treetop Tales; Rumble & Flash).
“That man’s music is as honest as was Woody Guthrie’s.” – Atesh Sonneborn, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings
Elliott’s early career demonstrates a love of folk, roots and singer-songwriter music. He has worked with many greats and shared the stage with artists of the highest caliber, including Odetta, Tom Paxton, Loudon Wainwright III, R.L. Burnside, Ruthie Foster, Jimmie Vaughan, Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, etc.
On his 20th album, Wreck and Ruin, Elliott dove into his love of roots-rock, soul and blues music with a rocking band behind his artfully crafted songs. Producer and drummer, Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) lined up the best rhythm and lead players in Nashville to create Elliott’s greatest album to date. Guitarist and bassist Kenny Vaughan and Dave Roe, legendary Nashville players, add the needed touches to rocket Elliott’s songs into a new arena of hard driving Americana.
“Chad Elliott has assembled not only a great group of songs, but some of Nashville’s finest roots music practitioners and producer drummer Ken Coomer to make a soulful and beautiful album. Townes would be proud.” – Will Kimbrough about Wreck and Ruin
On his 21st album, RINGGOLD, Elliott recorded songs at his home studio in Iowa. The studio, built in his grandparents’ former home, helped him connect with his roots and explore difficult songs about those closest to him. It was released in 2017.
Today, with his band The Redemptions, there is a marked shift in his sound that is entirely original. Elliott released his 22nd album, Rest Heavy: The Sun Studio Sessions, in 2018. Greg Brown said of the new album, it’s “low, loose and full of juice. This album’s got a lot of life to it.”
With Rest Heavy, Elliott shows his love of roots-rock, soul, and blues music with a rocking band behind his artfully crafted songs and gravelly delivery. Elliott, performing on acoustic guitar and harmonica, is joined by his full band, The Redemptions, including Tommy Lewis, Travis McFarlane, Kevin Boehnke, Joseph Cafaro, and Jim Van Dorn. The self-produced album was recorded at the famed Sun Studio in Memphis, TN by Ples Hampton. Hampton said, “It was honestly one of the best sessions I’ve ever had up here. This is gold.”
In November 2019 Elliott released King Pelican. This album holds 8 tracks recorded live with his band, The Redemptions, during a set for The Sun Studio Sessions documentary series featured on PBS. The show is currently airing nationwide. The entire album delivers the goods. It is a colorful album including songs such as the title track, a fun New Orleans-style number about a ne’er-do-well character, and “Paris,” which would make Humphrey Bogart shed a tear. King Pelican was released Nov. 3, 2019.
Elliott’s 24th studio album, Tangle with the Ghost, is a rich collection of Americana roots songs. It was recorded alongside other Iowa artists at Old School Studios in Auburn, IA with producer/artist Todd Partridge. The record is sonically diverse. Each track is like a painting or vignette reckoning with the dark night of the soul. “Sometimes you must do the things that frighten you the most. That’s why I still tangle with the ghost,” Elliott sings on the title track. Tangle with the Ghost was released in November 2020.

Event Details
After years of headlining rock shows and opening up for some of the hottest acts around, Minneapolis-native Tony Williams (formerly of hard rock act Staija) began a journey of crisscrossing the musical spectrum, searching for the right mixture of melody, instrumentation, and emotion. It was a new beginning, born of a need to blend these experiences to create something original: a true solo record from start to finish under the brand of TW.
With the release of his debut EP, Destined To Be Real, Williams achieved just that; he played every instrument on the four-song release. Guitars, keyboards, fretless bass, drums & vocals were all tracked individually over just one month’s time. The final mixes are a blend of singer/songwriter, acoustic, and rock, featuring big, melodic choruses that leave your head nodding, and revealingly honest lyrics that leave your heart aching.
Now, with an incredible full band line-up made up of the best players (and close friends) Williams has known for nearly half his life, the TW live show is captivating audiences at venues across the country, including three performances during the famed SXSW music festival in Austin, TX in March 2013.

Equally accomplished on trombone and piano, Conrad has performed all over the world with a wide variety of groups. He has toured the Midwest as the pianist in Chris Merz’s quartet, and has toured China as the lead trombonist with UNC Jazz Lab Band I. His jazz festival appearances include the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, the Twin Cites Jazz Festival, and the Riverfront Jazz Festival in Steven’s Point, WI. One of his most memorable experiences was performing six concerts of the Music of Gil Evans at the 2012 Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy. He has also been a part of so many great recordings, and is excited to be featured on several recent releases (“Where the Paths Meet,” Chris Merz; “Infância,” Cassio Vianna; “Instrumental,” Dave Chisholm; a project in Colorado with Louis Hayes; and the “Romeo and Juliet Project,” UNC Jazz Lab Band I). Conrad truly loves collaborating with other musicians, and always brings his creativity and expressiveness to each performance.

Deadstock & Friends will be performing.
A celebration of the city coming together. October 23 – October 25 the Deadstock Ent family opened up their home to some of the dopest creatives in the city of Des Moines. We dedicated 72 hours to pure creation. Whatever was made during that weekend would be put together as a compilation project to celebrate the talent that lives within in 515.
All production, writing, instrumentation and lyrics was laid within that time frame. After deciphering through 30-40 songs, we decided on 15 songs that showcase the well rounded sound of our city.
We thought it was only right to debut the project with a celebration. This WILL NOT be a typical show, this will be a house party. Come to enjoy yourself and keep ANY/ALL negative energy away from the event. Exclusive merchandise with limited quantities will be on sale. Artwork from talented individuals will be on display & also for sale.

That’s right, after the longest hiatus in our nearly 10 year history, we will be returning to the Gas Lamp Des Moines stage for Sunday night karaoke, starting next Sunday. We truly enjoyed our three month Australian pilgrimage, uncovering the source material for every Silverchair, AC/DC, and INXS song, but we’re ready to sing with you again.

– Respect people and their personal space. Lets keep this a safe environment.
– No smoking on the patio (Go outside and burn em if ya got em)
– If you plan on signing up to sing, please bring your own microphone and mic stand. ( you dont want my spit and breath, and i don’t want yours)
– Please bring your own instrument to play
– Acoustic style instruments only please (acoustic guitar, cajon, djembe, bongos, etc.)
We are pumped to get rolling again. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we try and adjust to this “new normal”.
See ya Monday!

Simon Harding is a professional musician, educator, and composer/arranger with a love for all things saxophone and flute. His inspiration began at 7 years old hiding in his bedroom listening to Mozart, and brought him all the way to Coastal Carolina University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in classical saxophone. During a mandatory performance project Simon developed an intense passion for jazz sax beginning with Michael Brecker.
Following graduation, Simon attended the College of Charleston to focus on his new found love of jazz music and earned an Artist Certificate. While at the College of Charleston he was honored to be selected as 1 of 7 U.S. guest artists to perform with the San Salvador Big Band and the El Salvadoran National Youth Orchestra at the Teatro Presidente. He was also a part of the top jazz ensemble at CofC which performed at the first ever Georgia Twilight Jazz Festival, where he was awarded “Outstanding Soloist”.
As a free lance saxophonist, Simon has had the pleasure of working with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, The O.J.’s, The Tommy Dorsey Band, Ben Folds, and Elise Testone of American Idol. He was also a regular member of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, and the Darius Rucker Big Band when he resided in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
He shares his passion for music education through his co-founding of the Low Country Saxophone Camp with good friend Jonathan Kammer, and has given masterclasses and clinics at universities, high schools and middle schools all over the Country.
Simon now resides in Cedar Falls, IA and works at Tenor Madness Saxophone shop as well as teaching Jazz at Wartburg College.

Event Details
Celebrated Iowa Saxophonist Damani Phillips introduces audiences to a new generation of musicians, handpicked from his stellar group of Jazz Studies students at the University of Iowa. This series draws on the rich history of creation between teacher & student that lies at the heart of the jazz tradition.
––––––––––
Dr. Damani Philips is a native of Pontiac, MI, where he began playing at the age of 10. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Jazz Studies and African-American Studies at the University of Iowa, where he teaches applied jazz saxophone, directs jazz combos and teaches courses in African-American music, African-American culture, jazz education and improvisation. He has earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from DePaul University (Chicago) and The University of Kentucky in classical saxophone; and a second Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University (Detroit). Phillips completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009; becoming one of the first African-Americans in the country to earn this degree. He was named a Yamaha performing artist in 2014.
An active performer, pedagogue and composer, Phillips has taught and performed throughout the United States, Europe and South America. He previously served on the full time faculty of Grinnell College, the adjunct faculty of Oakland University (Rochester, MI) and Macomb Community College (Macomb, MI), and is actively sought as a guest artist, clinician, lecturer, panelist and adjudicator throughout the country. As a lecturer, Phillips has presented on a variety of topics on jazz and Black music’s association with American culture at venues such as The African-American Museum of Iowa, the Deutschebank Kunsthalle of (Berlin) and well over a dozen colleges/universities within the United States. As a performer, Phillips has shared the stage with artists/groups such as Lewis Nash, Christian McBride, Wycliffe Gordon, Bobby McFerrin, Marcus Belgrave, Terrell Stafford, Maceo Parker, Pat Bianchi, Bobby Floyd, The Temptations, Red Holloway, Hank Jones and many others. As a recording artist, Phillips released his debut CD “Yaktown Nights” in 2003, “The String Theory” in November of 2010 and “The Reckoning” (featuring New York standouts Pat Bianchi – organ, Greg Gisbert – tpt and Lewis Nash – dr) in 2012. His 2015 recording project “Duality” is a double album featuring a unique synergy between straight-ahead jazz and hip hop music. Phillips’ brand new live recording “Live in Iowa” was released in January of 2018.
Phillips is also an active academic scholar, with scholarly presentations at colleges, universities, professional/civic conferences and scholarly forums both domestically and abroad to his credit. His research focuses on addressing cultural concerns in the pedagogy of Black music within academia. He published his first book titled “What is This Thing Called Soul: Conversations on Jazz and Black Culture” in 2017, which delves into the difficult topic of the decline of Black cultural influence/representation in jazz as traditionally taught in academic spheres.
––––––––––
A native of Geneseo, Illinois, Jim Buennig [BYOO-nig] is a saxophonist, educator, composer, and recording artist based in Iowa City, Iowa, specializing in a range of musical styles with his main focus being jazz. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and also holds degrees in music from the University of Iowa and Western Illinois University.
In March 2017, Buennig released It’s Like This, his self-produced debut studio album. The album consists entirely of original compositions and has received wide critical acclaim. Hobart Taylor of Orange County Public Radio (Irvine, CA) called Buennig’s playing “relaxed, not derivative or chasing fashion, and perpetually in the groove.”
Midwest Record described the album as “a solid dose of pure jazz for serious listeners that want to hear some new stuff done right.”
Jim’s major influences include Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Kenny Garrett, Vincent Herring, Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, and Tom Harrell.

Beginning June 28th, please come laugh at us as we try to remember all these damn songs!
Long post alert:
That’s right, after the longest hiatus in our nearly 10 year history, we will be returning to the Gas Lamp Des Moines stage for Sunday night karaoke, starting next Sunday. We truly enjoyed our three month Australian pilgrimage, uncovering the source material for every Silverchair, AC/DC, and INXS song, but we’re ready to sing with you again.

Strfkr
STRFKR has always been a constantly evolving entity, growing over the years from rambunctious beginnings in the manicured electro-pop perfection they exhibited on their last studio album, 2016’s pristine Being No One, Going Nowhere. New single “Never The Same” is a sharp left turn from anything the band has explored before, hitting hard with a minimal arrangement of acoustic guitars, stripped-down drums and Josh Hodges’ familiar weightless vocals all bathed in lo-fi production. The song is warm and direct, with twisting melodies and a straightforward delivery that highlights how vulnerable the band’s lyrics can be. This kind of careful, hushed energy is new territory for STRFKR, and it’s a risky move for a band loved for their exclamatory synth-pop. Going out on this ledge results in one of the band’s most immediate and rewarding songs, one that’s strange and beautiful but as intense as a secret being whispered in your ear.

Reggae Monday Open Mic is back at the Gaslamp! We couldn’t be more excited to get things back and rolling. We do have a few guidelines we would like people to follow moving forward to keep everyone safe.
