Sumpin Doo is a four piece Blues band with a bit of R&B and Soul mixed in.
The Davis brothers, Gil and George Davis started Sumpin Doo over 20 years ago and have had numerous different line ups of supporting band members over the years.Both men have played their whole lives and have had numerous opportunities throughout their careers to include Gil Davis being on one of the first Bruce Springsteen albums. And both Gil and George being on tour with Cool and the Gang in the day as part of the opening act. Both had the honor of playing the famous NYC club, “The Apollo Theater” as young men.
George and Gil Davis are both early entries into the Iowa Blues hall of Fame.
George Davis is the leader of the band, guitar player and main vocalist..
Gil Davis is the bass player and assists in singing with his brother. His reputation as a groove bass player with feel is well known in the Des Moines area.
Jim Parker plays drums and sings background vocals. He has been a permanent member of Sumpin Doo since 2013. Jim plays in numerous bands in the Des Moines area to include the Tony Valdez Large Band and the RhythMatics. Jim was the drummer in the Cavaliers during the 70’s and was inducted into the Iowa Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Cavaliers.
Danny Nicholson is the lead guitarist and has been in the band for two years. Danny has been a major staple in the Des Moines guitar player scene for many years. From the old days of the Cavaliers to Sam Salomone & Friends and many years with Paul Micich and World Port. Danny is a highly regarded and knowledgeable guitar player.
The most important and interesting part of Sumpin Doo is this…….four musicians who truly are the best of friends, care about each other, and care about playing the Blues.
